The Overcoat was conceived and directed by Morris Panych and Wendy Gorling.
The Overcoat is a play without words. Intricate, stylised and beautifully choreographed movement is married to the sweeping music of Shostakovich, telling a richly detailed story.
An award winning set, austere lighting and period costumes combine to create a world of splendour and madness.
With a cast of 22 actors, The Overcoat possesses a scale seldom seen on international touring stages.
Following its critical and popular success at Toronto's Harbourfront World Stage Festival 2003,The Overcoat played the Barbican Theatre, London, in January 2004. In March 2004 the show went on to play The Adelaide Festival and The New Zealand Festival followed by the Bergen Festival in May. The Overcoat had its American premiere at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Connecticut in January 2005.
The Overcoat opened at the American Conservatory Theatre (ACT) on August 25th 2005 and had a hugely successful run which extended until October 8th. The show subsequently toured across Canada in 2007 including a return to Toronto and on tour in Calgary and Edmonton.
